What things make you a better writer?
I would have to say what things make me a better writer have been learned over the last couple of years. And I honestly don’t always stick to the same thing over all. It is only a process depending on the book I am writing.
The Things:
Music - I have noticed that music relaxes me and helps me get in the mood to work and do writing. There are times I can’t listen to music while I write but that is only if I am writing a complicated scene or if I am in the mood for silence.
Notes - Always take notes. I might write notes for a chapter I am working on or for the next five chapters. That way, I stay on task and keep moving. If I wing it, it sometimes gets crazy and I don’t know the mess I have made.
ProWritingAid - This software helps me go through and catch things I don’t see on my own. Then I look at it a different way or change it the way it suggests. It doesn’t always work depending on the settings you have it on. After this I send it off to Allison to edit. She does an awesome job as an editor.
Scrivener - I use this software to write. It helps me organize characters, places, and important facts I need to look up fast. But then I transfer everything over to word to send to Allison.
Character Art or Cover - I rarely have the covers made before I write the book. But in the last few I have found pre-made covers, and character images, that helped me write better. Then I got some covers created to help inspire my writing.
Outlines - This depends. I have books I have to write by an outline to get everything in it I want. Then there are books where I pants my way through it. This is only if I know the outcome of the story and storyline for most of the book itself.
