Hi everyone, it's me, K.M. Jenkins. Today I am going to ask myself a hard question that I don’t really know the answer to. What is the art of writing for me when it comes to writing with Music on or off? Hmmm... I would say I am 50/50 both ways. There are times I love to write with music playing in the background. This especially helps me keep moving on in the manuscript as I edit too. But I have times when I can’t write with any type of noise going or I won’t get anything done.
Funny story. I usually do work as a personal assistant throughout the day with the TV blaring in my ear. This is because of my desk being set up in the living room right in front of the TV. The boys always have it going no matter what during the week. I’m only able to turn it off when I am home alone most the time.
That was until my mom retired. She now comes over whenever she wants throughout the day. Doesn’t help that I pay her to clean my place and help keep up on errands. But anyway, I will work my way through edits when boom... she turns Days of our Lives on. This is the soap she has watched since she was a kid. And honestly, I watch it too. So, I get no work done when it is on—too busy trying to see what happens next to the idiot of the week on the show.
Now that I have talked a little about my process and the madness I face. What do you think? Do you think I am a 50/50 like I assume? Or do you think I just have to stick to it with silence to get things done? Honestly, I would rather know how you handle it. Share your process in the comments. This way we all can learn from each other.
